1.   What are Cookies?

A “cookie” is a small file that is placed on your computer, mobile device, or any other device by a website, containing the details of your browsing history on that website, among its many uses.  We automatically derive and collect certain data based on your interactions with us on the Site using cookies. Our collection of this information allows us to improve your user experience in various ways, such as to personalize our display of the Site to you, to “remember” whether or not you are signed in, and to provide better technical support to you.

As generally described below, you can choose to have your device warn you each time a cookie is being sent, or you can choose to turn off all cookies other than strictly necessary/essential cookies. You can usually do this through your browser settings. Note, however, that if you restrict, disable, or block any or all cookies from your web browser or mobile or other device, the Site may not operate properly, and you may not have access to certain services or parts of the Site. We will not be liable for any interruption in, or inability to use, the Site or our services or degraded functioning thereof, where such are caused by your settings and choices regarding cookies.

As described in more detail below, we use several types of cookies, each performing different functions. You can learn more about cookies and their functions generally by visiting an informational website such as www.allaboutcookies.org.

2.    What Types of Cookies May be Used?

Cookies can be first-party cookies or third-party cookies. Whether a cookie is 'first' or 'third' party refers to the domain placing the cookie. First-party cookies are those set by a website that is being visited by the user at the time (e.g., cookies placed by www.HercRentals.com). Third-party cookies, discussed further below, are cookies that are set by a domain or entity other than that of the website being visited by the user.

Cookies can be “Persistent” or “Session” cookies. Persistent cookies remain on your personal computer or mobile device when you go offline, while Session cookies are deleted as soon as you close your web browser. Cookies also have different functions. The cookies that may be used on our Site fall into the categories described below. These descriptions can help you determine if and how you would like to interact with our websites and other online services.

        2.1.    Strictly Necessary/Essential cookies

Type:  Session cookies

Purpose:  These cookies (also called “required” cookies) are essential in order to enable you to navigate the Site and use certain features (e.g., logging in, filling out forms, etc.). They help to authenticate users and prevent fraudulent use of user accounts. Without these cookies, the services you have asked for, such as shopping carts or producing your bill at checkout, cannot be provided. We also wouldn’t be able to guarantee how the Site or the security on the Site will perform during your visit.

        2.2.    Functionality cookies

Type:  Persistent cookies

Purpose:  These cookies allow us to remember choices you make when you use the Site, such as remembering your login details, or showing embedded videos and content. The purpose of these cookies is to provide you with a more personal experience and to avoid you having to re-enter your preferences every time you use the Site.  Some of these cookies may be set by third party providers whose services we have added to our pages. If you do not accept these cookies then some of these services may not function properly.

        2.3.    Performance and Analytics cookies

Type:  Persistent cookies

Purpose:  Performance cookies collect information about how you use our Site, e.g., which pages you visit and if you experience any errors. These cookies do not collect any information that could identify you and are only used to help us improve how our website works, understand what interests our users, and measure how effective our content is. For example, we use performance cookies to perform web analytics, which provide anonymous statistics on how our Site is used. Some of our performance cookies are managed for us by third parties. However, we don't allow the third party to use the cookies for any purpose other than those listed above.

        2.4.    Advertising cookies

Type:  Persistent cookies

Purpose:  We partner with third parties to either display advertising on our Site or to manage our advertising on other sites. They use cookies to record your visit to our Site, your opening and review of our emails, the pages you have visited, the links you have clicked, and gather information about your browsing habits and remember that you have visited a Site. We, or our third-party service providers, may use this information to make advertisements more relevant to you.  Our third-party partners may use technologies such as cookies to gather information about your activities on the Site and other sites in order to provide you with advertising based upon your browsing activities and interests.

        2.5.    Social Networking Cookies

Purpose: These cookies are set by a range of social media services that we have added to the Sites to enable you to share our content with your friends and networks. They are capable of tracking your browser across other websites and building a profile of your interests. This may impact the content and messages you see on other websites you visit. If you do not allow these Cookies, you may not be able to use or see these sharing tools.

3.    Third-party cookies

As described above, some cookies that we use come from third parties. Specifically, the following third-party services are those we use for analytics (i.e., tracking and performance cookies) and advertising. We suggest that you check the respective data policies for these external services to help you understand what data these organizations hold about you and what they do with it.

  • Facebook
  • Google Analytics

4.    Disabling/Enabling Cookies

There are ways for you to manage cookies and other tracking technologies. These include changing your browser settings.

Through your browser settings, you can accept or decline cookies or set your browser to prompt you before accepting a cookie from the websites you visit. You should be aware that you may not be able to use all the interactive features on our Site if you set your browser to disable cookies entirely. Further, if you use different computers in different locations you will need to ensure that each browser is adjusted to suit your preferences. You can also delete any cookies that have been installed in the cookie folder of your browser.

5.    Do Not Track Signals

We do not respond to the “Do Not Track” signal that may be activated on your browser. There is no uniform or consistent standard or definition for responding to, processing, or communicating Do Not Track signals.
