With more than 50 years of equipment rental expertise, approximately 4,900 employees and approximately 270 company-operated locations primarily in the United States and Canada, Herc Rentals serves a broad range of customer markets, including large and small companies in construction; industrial customers such as large industrial manufacturing plants, refineries and petrochemical operations; and other customers such as governmental entities and government contractors, disaster recovery and remediation firms, infrastructure,  railroads , utility operators, individual homeowners, entertainment production companies, agricultural producers, special event management and facility management firms.

Human Rights Policy

Respect for human rights is an inherently fundamental value of Herc Rentals. We strive to adhere to and promote human rights in accordance with the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights in our relationships with our employees, customers, suppliers, and contractors. As part of our core values we aim to “do what’s right.”

This Policy is guided by international human rights principles encompassed by the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, including those contained within the International Bill of Rights and the International Labor Organization’s 1998 Declaration on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work.

While this policy applies specifically to Herc Rentals’ business practices, we also expect customers, suppliers and contractors to uphold these principles and urge them to adopt similar policies within their own businesses.

We are committed to addressing human rights concerns relating to people in our business and value chain. If we were to identify adverse human rights impacts resulting from or caused by our business activities, we are committed to provide for or cooperate in their fair and equitable remediation. In addition, we would seek to promote access to remediation if we were linked to or involved in adverse human rights impacts through our relationships with third parties.

We expressly forbid the use of all forms of forced labor, including prison labor, indentured labor, bonded labor, military labor, any form of slavery and any form of human trafficking. We prohibit the hiring of individuals that are under 18 years of age for positions in which hazardous work is required.

The Human Rights Policy is overseen by the Company’s Board of Directors, including the Chief Executive Officer.

Work Hours, Wages and Benefits
We compensate employees competitively relative to the industry and local labor market, and in accordance with terms of applicable collective bargaining agreements. We work to ensure full compliance with applicable wage, work hours, overtime and benefits laws.

Guidance and Reporting for Employees
We strive to create workplaces in which open and honest communications among all employees are valued and respected. The Company is committed to complying with applicable labor and employment laws wherever we operate and adhering to and promoting human rights in accordance with the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights.

Any employee who believes a conflict arises between the language of our policies and the laws, customs and practices of the place where he or she works, or who has questions about our policies or would like to confidentially report a potential violation of our policies, can raise those questions and concerns with local management, Human Resources or the Company’s Compliance Department. Employees can also anonymously report suspected violations of Company policies and laws through a secure internet website or by calling the Company hotline. No reprisal or retaliatory action will be taken against any employee for raising their concerns. The Company will investigate, address and respond to the concerns of employees and will take appropriate corrective action in response to any verified violation.

 

Vendor Code of Conduct

Herc Rentals is committed to a policy of fair, honest and ethical business practices and conduct, including all principles outlined in our Code of Ethics, and to full compliance with all applicable laws and government regulations wherever we operate. This commitment extends to all vendors and suppliers, who we hold to the same standards and principles by which we operate.

These standards and principles include adherence to UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights and international human rights principles encompassed by the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, including those contained within the International Bill of Rights and the International Labor Organization’s 1998 Declaration on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work.

Herc Rentals is a federal contractor that complies fully with all federal laws and regulations and, accordingly, requires its vendors and supplier, as well as their contractors and subcontractors, to comply with all applicable laws and regulations in the production and fulfillment of Herc Rentals’ requested goods and services.

Herc Rentals requires an active commitment to, and personal accountability for, safety and safety compliance from all employees and contractors. Because safety is our most important priority, Herc Rentals expects its supplier and vendor representatives to adhere to all Company safety requirements and applicable state and federal safety regulations while visiting Company facilities. To support that expectation, Herc Rentals’ Contractor Safety Guide stipulates specific safety practices and actions that all contractors must follow. Failure to comply with Herc Rentals’ safety requirements will result in contractor representatives being asked to leave the Company’s premises.

Herc Rentals is committed to minimizing the impact of its equipment rental operations on the environment by implementing programs that incorporate sound environmental policy and best management practices and by operating in accordance with all relevant local, state, and federal/national regulations everywhere we operate. The Company expects all its vendors and suppliers to operate with the same accountability related to sound environmental practices and, where applicable, will seek documentation from vendors and suppliers certifying the existence of an environmental management system governing the production and fulfillment of Herc Rentals’ requested materials and goods.
